Sabbath Rest, Dropbox, and Finding My Gospel Voice | GOF29
What do you do when your kid wants to skip out on church? In this episode, I string together a couple of different topics all centered around a single theme – applying the gospel to rest. Sometimes it’s easy to pack our schedules, particularly during the holidays, with events, hobbies and family stuff. The problem? We can actually overextend ourselves. And when we do this, usually, going to church is the last thing to get scheduled.
I also spend this episode talking about how I have found my Gospel Voice. I’ve never considered myself a Gospel preacher until now. Find out why!

This Episode’s Topic: Sabbath Rest and the Gospel
To better understand why this topic matters, we will take a look at the 4th Commandment and try to understand why God instructs us to maintain sabbath rest.

To shape the conversation, here are two catechism questions used to discuss the 4th Commandment.
Heidelberg Catechism
What does God require in the fourth commandment?
In the first place, God wills that the ministry of the Gospel and schools be maintained, and that I, especially on the day of rest, diligently attend church to learn the Word of God, to use the holy sacraments, to call publicly upon the Lord, and to give Christian alms. In the second place, that all the days of my life I rest from my evil works, all the Lord to work in me by His Spirit, and thus begin in this life the everlasting sabbath.
Anglican Catechism- To be a Christian
Why Should you rest on the Sabbath?
I rest, as Israel was to rest, because God rested on the seventh day of his work of creation. The Sabbath rest brought rhythm to life, work, and worship; freedom from slavery to unending labor; and awareness that God is Lord of all time, including mine.
Key Idea: Sabbath rest is equated to gospel rest.
Smitty’s Tip of the Week
This week I share a quick tip on how to use DropBox to scan documents. Here is a link to a helpful article on the tip.

The best part about podcasting is joining in a conversation with you. To help kick off a discussion here is a question to consider:
Are you convinced that God’s grace is completely free to you?
