The month of June is LGBTQ+ pride month. This year the movement celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Gay Pride movement. For conservative Christians, the tendency may be to withdrawal or fall into old cultural war patterns of anger or resentment. I suggest there is a third option — the way of compassion, justice, and love. In GOF98, I offer six suggestions on how Side B Evangelicals can demonstrate the love of God to LGBTQ+ people.

1) Begin with an equal footing – We’re all human beings.
2) Focus on the person – not the behavior.
Behaviors rarely change until emotions and thoughts change.
3) Practice Grace Space recognizing the complexities involved
4) Reinforce the relationship over and over again.
5) Be grounded in who you are. Don’t be offended if someone is offended.
Remember Gospel-Centered is always focused on a person moving towards a center
6) Trust the Holy Spirit for the Long Game
