The Number One Secret to Changing Your Prayer Life | FITC35

Episode 35

by Dr. Jonathan G. Smith | Faith In The City

Have you ever noticed advertisements that begin with “the number one secret to changing your prayer life?” Frankly, I haven’t. And that’s too bad because prayer is one of the most critical disciplines in the life of faith.

We all want to know the secret formula to success and the life of our dreams. But what if those things were not good for us and God doesn’t answer our prayers by giving our wishes to us? How should we respond?

In this message, we continue with the Integrated Life Series and look at the critical issue of our prayer life. Sometimes, our prayer life is not always in the best shape. Why is this case? The answer rests on the condition of our hearts. James 4:1-10 will teach us that our prayer life is related to humility.

Key Notes to Remember

A humble prayer life begins by developing a heart of humility. That does not mean we are weak. Instead, being humble comes from our posture before God, our Father. We must remember that prayer is communing with the divine.
Four Practical Ways To Develop Our Prayer Life:

  1. Submission
  2. Preparation
  3. Repentance
  4. Humility

Augustine writes, “If you ask me what is the first precept of the Christian religion, I will answer, first, second, and third, Humility.”
