What Does the Cross-Shaped Christian Life Really Mean? | FITC 22

Episode 22 | The Cross Shaped Life

by Dr. Jonathan G. Smith | Faith In The City

What does the Cross-Shaped Christian life look like?  In Jimmy Davis’ book, “Cruciform: Living the Cross-Shaped Life” he gives us a basic idea: ”1) We were made to live in God’s community and 2) on God’s Mission.”

I don’t know about you, but that’s not really what comes to mind when I think about the big idea of Christianity. However, when you pull back from traditional ways of looking at the Bible, you can see Davis’ point: God does call a community, Israel in the Old Testament and the church in the New Testament, and gives that community a mission.

What’s our problem? Well, it begins with understanding that sometimes we miss the big idea because of our spiritual blindness. So today we are going to be looking at the story of Blind Bartimaeus to discover how Jesus healing of eyesight informs how we should live today. So grab your Bible and turn to Mark 8:22–26.

Sermon Topic: The Cross-Shaped Christian

Key Notes to Remember

Spiritual blindness is a critical theme in the New Testament. To live the Cruciform Life requires that we pray for healing from our “blind spots.”
